Management Team
Philip V. Adams, President & Chief Executive Officer
As President and Chief Executive Officer, Phil is responsible for setting the strategic direction of World Energy and managing its successful execution. During his tenure at the Company, Phil has been instrumental in achieving several notable milestones, including: taking World Energy public in 2006; overseeing the acquisition of EnergyGateway in 2007; negotiating the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) contract in 2008 to run auctions for the US’ first carbon cap and trade program; listing the Company on the NASDAQ in 2009; and launching the Company’s Demand Response offering in 2010.
In 2011 and 2012, Phil spearheaded the acquisition of four companies – the energy procurement business of Co-eXprise; Northeast Energy Solutions; GSE Consulting; and Northeast Energy Partners. Together, these acquisitions have cemented the Company’s leadership position in the energy auction space, driven the Company’s entrance into the fast growing mid-market segment and added new capabilities in energy efficiency. These moves, in tandem with the Company’s rapid growth and expansion into new markets, led to Phil’s selection in 2013 as Central Massachusetts’ Business Leader of the Year by the Worcester Business Journal.
Phil began as a consultant to the company in 2001, was offered the position of COO in 2003, became President of the Company in 2007 and was named President & CEO in 2012. Prior to World Energy, he held senior executive roles in sales, marketing and product management at several major software and internet companies. Phil also spent four years in strategy consulting at Corporate Decisions (now Mercer Consulting). He holds a B.A. in Economics from Williams College and an M.S. from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
While in college, Phil was introduced to the sport of Ultimate Frisbee and embraced its “Spirit of the Game,” a code of conduct that emphasizes personal responsibility, integrity and accountability. When he moved to Boston, he co-founded and starred on that city’s national and world championship Ultimate team, the Rude Boys. When two of his dear friends passed away from ALS and cancer, Phil co-founded the Pufahl Farricker Spirit Foundation, a non-profit that has raised over $100,000 through an annual charity event – the Spirit Ride – both to promote the Spirit of the Game in Ultimate and fund care for terminally ill patients. He has since carried forward Ultimate’s “Spirit of the Game” to the culture at World Energy, where each office participates bi-annually in local community service activities chosen by its employees.
